Coati Party

We’ve had another interesting busy week and have achieved a lot.
On Tuesday after the long holiday weekend we started work on furnishing the coati enclosure, ordered about 20 bags of woodchips and found the store-room full of fire-hose that we got last year. Between me and Steve we had 2 hammers, the smallest saw you have ever seen and a penknife. With the aid of these items, sheer willpower and determination we spent two days hauling logs, hammering branches and fire-hose, climbing like monkeys to hang things at the top of the enclosure and attach high level platforms for the coatis.
We are pretty pleased with the results – a hammock and 3 platforms for sleeping, so many branches and fire-hoses for climbing, deep substrate for digging and rotten logs for foraging. If I was a coati, I’d be happy to live in there!
Just need the maintenance department to remedy a few little problems in the enclosure, and then the coatis can be let out.
Thursday was fairly quiet, just finishing off paperwork in the office, with the holiday weekend and the coati enclosure; we were starting to get a little behind. Also, it rained all day, and those are the best days for office work! The weather had been extremely hot and humid and a full day of rain is just what the animals and plants needed. Apart from general zoo paperwork we have two conferences coming up soon and Steve and I have to present work at both of them so we are working away manically at PowerPoint presentations on a variety of topics.
